Experimentation in SE (by Claes Wohlin et. al)

Four research methods in the field of of software engineering (SE), defined by Glass (1994) and Basili (1993):-
1. The scientific method - The world is observed and a model is built based on the simulation (e.g. a simulation model)
2. The engineering method - The current solutions are studied, and changes are proposed, and evaluated
3. The empirical method - A model is proposed and evaluated through empirical studies, eg. case studies or experiments
4. The analytical method - A formal theory is proposed and then compared with empirical observations.

Since SE is a cross-disciplinary subject, researches in SE were very much governed by human behavior when dealing with software development (Wohlin et.al). In this relation, the need to understand the underlying process when performing empirical studies is very important. Wohlin et. al (2000) outlines three major categories of empirical strategies:-
  • Survey - normally performed in retrospect, when for instance a tool or technique has been used for a while
  • Case Study - are used for monitoring projects, activities or assignments. Data is collected for specific purposes; is an observational study with lower level of controls
  • Formal experiment - normally a controlled study done in a lab environment, thus provide high level of control. Subjects are either assigned to different treatment on random basis (true experimentation) or non-random (quasi-experiments)

Be careful if you go to Albert Park alone at 7pm onwards

This is just to remind all my frens (especially girls) and for those who reside in Auckland. Yati told me the story that one of our colleague (Korean guy) was attack by several guys when he was walking through the Albert Park at around 7pm sth. It was almost dark at that time and he was on the way back home. While he was walking, suddenly there was a man (with few others) grabbed his bag and punched his face (kesian, lebam muka dia..). He couldn't see the face of the man. Luckily the wallet and mobile phone was in the pocket, so there's not much valuable item inside the bag. But morale of the story is always be careful when you have to walk alone. Where possible, try to use the road or street that many other people used.

Akibat terlebih Vitamin "M"

Salam para pembaca blog yang budiman,
Inilah akibatnya terlebih Vitamin M..blog pun dah malas nak update...Nak cerita pun, cerita dah basi da... Tadi borak ngan Chea baru teringat meh la tengok sat..
Minggu ni sebenarnya sibuk melayan kenkawan yg dtg dr Msia, Titov dan Syazwan. Titov dtg sini ada hal keja sket, Syazwan pulak ada present paper kat conference ER2007. Both are my good friends. Titov now is doing PhD at IIUM and Syazwan baru abis last year. Syazwan was my batch mate mase undergraduate zaman dulu kala..Lama seh tak jumpa lepas 10 tahun baru terjumpa hahaa banyak nak cerita... OK lah itu citer pasal kenkawan saya.
Now, the reality is I've to settle my work for tomorrow's meeting. Again, will meet my wonderful supervisor at Downtown. This will be our last meeting before she go home to Brazil for raya plus holidays. Holidays??? yuhuuuu bestnya pegi holidays... Once a while, we need to take a break..we need to reward ourselves for our achievement (hopefully ada achievement! :-)) and one of the way is to leave aside the work and spend time for yourself to do anything you like during the break. Set the target to plan for holidays can also be a motivation factor. After working so hard, try to imagine and keep remind ourselves that once we get it done, we can take a break and go for holidays.. Remember that "Life is too short to worry about so many things!"

One day at Auckland Zoo ;)

Oh I love animals..!! Cherish the moment seeing this lovely animals..!

lovely sea lion and its baby!
a mother giraffe waiting to deliver her baby!!! Tgh sarat sgt tu...kesian!
si lion king pemalas nih...kuat tidor...4 four them actually, and all sleeping!!!
And this one..cheeky huh??
there are more pics stored at my personal repository hehee... contact me for further details.
And here is the trio..from left: Kak Aida, Roger and me at the Japanese garden :)

Believe it or not? There's a garden inside the Zoo!! I was amazed... It's really awesome!! One thing I observed, the zoo here is really taking care the cleanliness of the surrounding place and they're doing best to preserve the environment to keep the animals feel at home as in their natural habitat. If you're animal lover + have free time = I recommend you to apply for voluntarily work in the zoo ;)

Let's love the animals!!

If you don't, learn to love the animals... they're so lovely!!
